Important Storm Debris Details
February 10, 2010 IMPORTANT STORM DEBRIS DETAILS The Mayor and City Council are aware of the concerns of the citizens of our community about the storm debris throughout our city. This concern was discussed at the City Council meeting on February 9, 2010. The City and all of Stephens County are awaiting the results of FEMA Preliminary Disaster Assessment Team which is to be conducted on February 11. The results of this assessment will be taken to Washington, DC over the weekend and we have hopes that action in relation to a Disaster Declaration occurring the week of February 15th. In the meantime, storm debris may be stacked along the curb by your home as long as the limbs are cut to 4” lengths and bundled in stacks weighing no more than 20 pounds or they may be taken to the Waste Connection transfer station (7 miles east of Duncan on Hwy. 7). Fees related to the disposal of storm debris are listed below for all individuals. If you decide to leave the limbs and debris at your curb, there is presently no time frame nor cost determined for the removal of the debris. The Mayor and Council want you to understand that they understand your concerns but are also trying to be fiscally responsible for the City of Duncan and they do appreciate your patience during this recent storm. VISA, MASTERCARD AND DISCOVER CARD ACCEPTED FROM 8AM TO 5PM OPERATION HOURS ARE MONDAY THRU SATURDAY 8AM TO 6PM CHECKS ACCEPTED WITH VALID IDENTIFICATION UPDATE 2/22/2010 On February 19, 2010, Governor Henry requested additional federal aid due to the January 28th ice storm. The latest request seeks a public assistance major disaster declaration for 25 Oklahoma counties incurring more than $26 million in infrastructure damage and response costs. These counties include: Alfalfa, Caddo, Cleveland, Comanche, Cotton, Delaware, Dewey, Ellis, Grady, Greer, Harmon, Haskell, Hughes, Jackson, Kiowa, LeFlore, McClain, Muskogee, Okmulgee, Pontotoc, Pottawatomie, Roger, Mills, Seminole, Stephens, and Washita. If granted, a public assistance disaster declaration would authorize federal funding to assist cities, towns, and counties with infrastructure repairs and costs associated with their response to the January ice storm. Additional counties may be added to the public assistance disaster request as ongoing damage assessments are completed. Officials are also gathering estimates to determine if the state has accrued enough damage to request individual disaster assistance. The City of Duncan City Council has also requested a joint meeting with the Stephens County Commissioners, Comanche City Council, and Marlow City Council to discuss the Stephens County Disaster Declaration that is pending. At this time we are unable to provide any other information related to the debris clean-up other than what we have previously posted with the rates as shown above. |
